Terms of use

Last updated – October 2026

These terms of use apply to the apps “Learn French Easy – Le Bon Mot” (iPhone, iPad, Android) and “Learn Spanish Easy – Le Bon Mot” (Android), together “the app”. The provider is Le Bon Mot GmbH, Florianigasse 10/3/2, 1080 Vienna, Austria, FN 531957 s, Commercial Court of Vienna (“we”).

By downloading, installing or using the app you agree to these terms. This is a translation; the German version is legally binding.

1. Parties and stores

1.1 These terms are an agreement between you and us. Apple and Google are not parties to it; we alone are responsible for the app and its content.

1.2 You get the app from Apple’s App Store or from Google Play. Downloads, payments and refunds are also governed by the terms of the respective store, in particular the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions or the Google Play Terms of Service. If these terms conflict with the store’s usage rules, the store’s usage rules prevail.

1.3 Users of the iOS app are also subject to section 13, users of the Android app to section 14.

2. What the app offers

2.1 The app is a language course with lessons, illustrated vocabulary cards, recordings by native speakers, grammar explanations and exercises. The levels and content available are described on the app’s page in the respective store.

2.2 Some lessons are free. You can unlock further content (section 4).

2.3 The app helps you learn. We cannot promise any particular learning outcome or that you will pass an exam.

2.4 Some features use services from Apple or Google, such as iCloud, Game Center, Google Play Games, Android backup, or Apple’s speech recognition for the speaking exercise. These services are governed by their providers’ terms, and we have no influence on their availability. The automatic assessment of your pronunciation may contain errors.

3. Licence

3.1 We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable right to use the app for your own non-commercial purposes on devices that you own or control, within the usage rules of the respective store. This also applies to updates, unless they come with their own terms.

3.2 In particular, you may not:

3.3 If you would like to use the app in a school or language school, write to us at support@lebonmot.app.

3.4 All rights in the app and its content belong to us or our licensors. Le Bon Mot™ is a registered trademark.

4. Purchases and subscriptions

4.1 Depending on the platform, you can unlock content in two ways:

The store shows you the current prices before you buy.

4.2 Purchases and payments are handled by the respective store. We do not receive any payment details.

4.3 Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Payment for the next period is charged within the 24 hours before it begins.

4.4 You cancel a subscription in the store’s subscription settings: on iPhone or iPad under Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions, on Android in the Google Play app under Profile › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. After cancelling, you can use the content until the end of the period you have paid for.

4.5 If the store offers a free trial, it turns into a paid subscription when it ends unless you cancel before. The store shows you the conditions before you sign up.

4.6 If the price of a subscription changes, the store informs you in advance. Depending on the store and the size of the change, you may have to agree; without your agreement the subscription ends with the current period.

4.7 Purchases are tied to your Apple ID or Google account. You can restore them in the app on other devices that use the same account.

4.8 The Android app downloads purchased content from the internet. You need an internet connection once; after that the content also works offline.

5. Withdrawal and refunds

Refunds and any statutory right of withdrawal are handled by the store you bought from. Please contact Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com) or Google Play. Your mandatory rights as a consumer remain unaffected.

6. Updates and changes to the app

6.1 We keep developing the app and provide the updates needed for it to work as agreed, including security updates. Please install them; we are not liable for defects that only occur because you did not install an update we provided.

6.2 Updates may change or add content and features, for example to adapt the app to new operating systems. Content you have already bought remains available to you. If a change affects you more than only slightly, we will inform you in advance; you can then cancel a running subscription and you keep your statutory rights under the Austrian Consumer Warranty Act (Verbrauchergewährleistungsgesetz).

6.3 The app runs on the devices and operating systems listed in the store. Older versions are not supported indefinitely.

7. Warranty

The statutory warranty applies. If the app does not work as described, please write to us at support@lebonmot.app so we can fix the problem.

8. Liability

8.1 We are liable without limitation for damage we cause intentionally or through gross negligence, and for personal injury. We are not liable for other damage caused by slight negligence, to the extent permitted by law. Mandatory liability, for example under the Product Liability Act, remains unaffected.

8.2 Your progress is stored on your device and can be backed up via iCloud or Android backup. Use this backup if you want to keep your progress when you switch devices.

9. Support

We, not Apple or Google, are responsible for maintaining and supporting the app. You can reach us at support@lebonmot.app or Le Bon Mot GmbH, Florianigasse 10/3/2, 1080 Vienna, Austria.

10. Term and termination

You can stop using and delete the app at any time; a subscription must be cancelled separately (section 4.4). If you seriously breach these terms, for example by circumventing purchase verification or distributing the content, we may terminate your licence.

11. Privacy

How the app handles data is set out in the privacy policy.

12. Changes to these terms, applicable law

12.1 We may change these terms for the future, for example when laws or the app change. Content already paid for and the current subscription period remain under the previous version. We will inform you of material changes in good time in the app; you can cancel a subscription before its next renewal.

12.2 Austrian law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods and conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory provisions of the country where you habitually reside, and you can also sue us there. For businesses, the place of jurisdiction is Vienna.

12.3 We are neither obliged nor willing to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.

12.4 If any provision of these terms is invalid, the remaining provisions stay in effect.

13. Additional terms for the iOS app

The following additionally applies to the app obtained from the App Store:

14. Additional terms for the Android app

The app obtained from Google Play is additionally subject to the Google Play Terms of Service. Google is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for maintaining or supporting the app. Refunds for purchases are governed by Google Play’s policies.
